Hi Korean learners ! Today, we meet again for another Korean listening and reading practice for beginners. This Korean short story is targeted towards beginners. (A1)

Today, Luki will meet Zapi for the first time !

Korean Reading Practice

A New Friend ?

루키

어제 한국에 도착했어요.
비누 씨의 집에서 잤어요.
오늘은 비누 씨의 친구를 만날거예요.

루키 – 준비 됐어요!

비누 – 그럼 갑시다!
친구는 벌써 기다리고 있어요.
저랑 같은 학교에서 공부해요.
아주 착한 친구예요.

루키 – 우리 늦었어요?

비누 – 아니요, 괜찮아요.
저기 있어요. 자피 씨, 안녕하세요!

루키 – ** 와 ! 비누씨의 친구는 정말 예뻐요 **

자피 – 안녕하세요 !

비누 – 여기는 제 친구 루키 씨예요.

루키 – 안녕하세요 !
만나서 반가워요. 저는 루키예요.

자피 – 오 한국말을 할 줄 아세요?
저는 자피예요. 반가워요

루키 – 아직은 한국말을 잘 못 해요.
공부 하고 있어요.

자피 – 그래요? 제가 도와줄게요.
비누 씨, 어디로 갈거예요?

비누 – 카페에 갈까요?
커피를 마시고 싶어요.
학교 옆에 있는 카페는 어때요?

자피 – 좋아요

루키

카페에 갔어요.
카페에서 커피를 마셨어요.
케이크도 먹었어요.
몇 시간 동안 이야기 했어요.
비누 씨의 친구는 좋은 사람이에요.

자피 – 우리 같이 사진 찍을래요?

루키 – 셀카요?

자피 – 아니요 ! 근처에 ‘인생네컷’이 있어요.

루키 – ‘인생네컷’이요? 그게 뭐예요?

비누 – ‘인생네컷’은 스스로 사진을 찍을 수 있는 스튜디오예요.

루키 – 어, 좋아요 !

자피 – 그럼 가요 !

자피 – 도착했어요 !
이 곳은 ‘인생네컷’이에요.
여기에서 액세서리를 선택 할 수 있어요.
그 다음에 부스에 가요
기계가 사진을 찍을 거예요.

루키 – 와 신기해요.

비누 – 모자 쓰고 싶은 사람 있어요?

루키 – 저요!

자피 – 저는 안경을 쓸 거예요.

비누 – 이제 사진 찍어요!

루키

오늘 진짜 좋았어요.
카페에서 이야기를 많이 했어요.
사진도 많이 찍었어요.
재미있게 놀았어요.
자피 씨는 아주 좋은 사람이에요
다시 만나고 싶어요.

Translation (toggle!)

I arrived in Korea yesterday.
I slept at Binu’s house.
Today, I’m going to meet Binu’s friend.

– I’m ready
– Then, let’s go!
My friend is already waiting.
She studies at the same school as me.
She’s a very kind friend.
– Are we late?
– No, it’s okay.
She’s over there. Zapi, hello
** Wow! Binu’s friend is really pretty.
– Hello!
– This is my friend, Luki.
– Hello! Nice to meet you. I’m Luki.
– Oh, do you know how to speak Korean? I’m Zapi. Nice to meet you.
– I’m still not very good at Korean. I’m studying it.
– Really? I will help you.
Binu, where are we going?
– Shall we go to a café? I want to drink coffee. How about the café next to the school?
– Sounds good.

We went to the café.
We drank coffee at the café.
We also ate cake.
We talked for hours.
Binu’s friend is a good person.

– Do you want to take a picture together?
– A selfie?
– No! There’s an “인생네컷” nearby.
– 인생네컷 ? What’s that ?
– It’s a studio where you can take pictures by yourself.
– Oh, sounds fun!
– Then let’s go!

– We arrived! This place is the “인생네컷”. You can choose accessories here. Then, you go into the booth. The machine will take the pictures.
– Wow, that’s cool.
– Does anyone want to wear a hat?
– Me!
– I’ll wear glasses.

– Now, let’s take the pictures!

We talked a lot at the café.
We also took many pictures.
We had a lot of fun.
Zapi is a really good person.
I want to meet again.

Study Method for Texts

If you’re not familiar with text study, here’s a method I would suggest you try.

Since we’ve recently started making YouTube videos for each reading practice we post, I would suggest you watch the video to study the text.
The video is divided as follows :

  1. Korean voice only, with pictures to help the understanding
  2. Korean subtitles + translation
  3. Korean version 1 + Korean version 2, with more complicated sentences telling the same story
  4. Additional notes

By following the video first, you’ll get a good grasp of the text. Then, you can come back here and study it from here.
